What’s in a name?
By Med • Mar 10th, 2008 • Category: RandomThis past Saturday night I was out with some friends and after a ridiculously overpriced meal (note: I have no problem paying top dollar for a meal provided A: it at least mostly fills me up and B: it is of at least equal quality to what I feed my dog. This fulfilled neither.) we moseyed down the block in search of a place to get a few beers (note #2: beer list at the fore-mentioned restaurant = Miller Light, Stella Artois, Moosehead, Yuengling Lager. They couldn’t even get that right). Fortunately, being the beer geek that I am, I had already scouted the local options and within moments a proper beer list was in front of us.
That’s where I saw it.
I think names are important in many things, and beer is one of them. Perhaps the best name in beer right now is the excellent (name and beer) Stone Arrogant Bastard. Other notables would be Dark Horizon by Nogne, or even the suspiciously named Old Heathen by Weyerbacher. A beer’s name should tell you something. It should speak to the flavor, character, appearance, or history. When you order a bottle of Darkness you know what to expect.
What, then, should I expect from Bear Republic’s Red Rocket Ale?
Med is wondering where his keys are.
